We believe your data belongs to you. Here is exactly how we handle it.
BroDNS is strictly a lookup tool, not a data repository. When you enter a domain or IP address, our server processes that request in real-time and sends the result back to your browser. Once the transaction is complete, the data is gone.
When you use BroDNS, we act as a proxy between you and public internet records. Here is the technical breakdown of what happens:
1. You submit a query (e.g., "google.com").
2. Our server asks public DNS resolvers and WHOIS servers for information.
3. We format that information beautifully and show it to you.
4. The memory used for that process is cleared immediately.
To provide comprehensive data, we query specific external APIs. These services receive the domain or IP you are looking up, but they do not receive your personal identity.
We do not use server-side tracking cookies. We use a single LocalStorage item on your own device called brodns-theme.
This is used solely to remember if you prefer Dark Mode or Light Mode. This preference never leaves your browser.
